Local councillors have donated £420 from their community funds towards the cost of putting on a season of 20 Sunday afternoon band concerts at the town's riverside bandstand.

The well-attended concerts are organised by Wetherby Riverside Bandstand Trust, and the programme usually runs from May to September each year.

Wetherby ward councillor John Procter said: "I'm delighted that we could support this new season of Sunday afternoon concerts in Wetherby. They have proven really popular with local people, and I'm sure that they'll draw in the crowds again this year."

Fantastic venue

Wetherby ward councillor Alan Lamb added: "The riverside bandstand near the wilderness car park provides a fantastic venue for open air music, and people will be able to hear a series of high quality performances for free.

Wetherby ward councillor Gerald Wilkinson said: "It's important that we continue to get behind community events like this for the benefit of local people and visitors. I hope these enjoyable concerts will be a regular in the summer schedules for years to come."

The £420 grant comes from the Wetherby councillors' Members' Improvements in the Community and Environment fund (MICE) and will go towards the cost of three out of the 20 concerts in this year's programme.
