IRON man Richard Bewell took part in one of the toughest challenges an athlete can endure earlier this month.
The Wetherby Runner was contesting the UK Iron Man endurance event, taking part in the 2.4 mile swim, 112-mile bike ride and 26.2 marathon.

Bewell’s total time was clocked at 11 hours 43 minutes, and gave him an impressive 131st position out of a total field of 1,450 participants and eighth in the Men’s Over 45 category.

The day’s events began at Dorset’s Sherborne Castle at 6.30am, and Bewell completed his swim in under an hour.

After three 37-mile bike laps took six hours 21 minutes, the marathon stage was finished in just under three hours 45 seconds.

“It was a great privilige to be a part of this event and it has been an experience packed full of memories,” said Bewell.

“From the hard, time consuming training and anti-social early mornings, nutrition and race planning to all of the support I have received from family and friends without whom it would not have been possible.”
